Mississauga, ON Mould Damage Remediation

Mold Remediation for Mississauga Homes and Businesses

According to a climate classification, Mississauga is deemed a humid continental area impacted greatly by various water bodies like Lake Ontario, Credit River, and other creeks and streams. This higher moisture content in the Peel Region can lead to conditions ideal for mold and microbial growth in buildings. With more than 750,000 residents in the city alone, these fungal threats are common for the experienced and helpful remediation professionals of our SERVPRO of North Mississauga team. See our mold remediation page for complete details.

Got Mold Damage Mississauga?

The presence of mold in your Mississauga home may cause health effects, making it vital for professionals like ours to address this organism wherever it is found. With massive structures like the Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Mississauga Civic Centre, mold spores can spread quickly and get out of control without prompt action. Remediation is required to remove colonies from hosting materials using abrasive cleaning techniques. When materials are too severely impacted, controlled demolition may be required.

Mold Repairs and Reconstruction

With a team restoration experts, we offer a seamless transition from mold mitigation and remediation to reconstruction and repairs. Many discarded materials must get replaced as soon as possible to return a structure to its pre-mold conditions. With sprawling commercial properties like the Square One Shopping Centre, the many individual retail locations that could become affected by spreading mold cannot reopen without repairs and damage restoration.

Understanding Mold

Some restoration companies advertise “mould removal” and may even guarantee to remove all mould. This is a fallacy because it’s impossible to remove all mould from a house or business; microscopic mould spores exist almost everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. Here are the facts:

  • Mould is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mould spores are microscopic and float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or on a pet.
  • Mould spores thrive on moisture. Mould spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens, irritants, and toxins.
  • Before mould remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mould may return.
  • Mould often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mould problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mould growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

The Mould Remediation Process

Every mould damage scenario is different and requires a unique solution, but the general mould remediation process stays the same. The steps listed below illustrate our “typical” process:

Step 1: Emergency Contact - (905) 238-7376

We’re available 24 hours, 7 days a week to answer your phone call. Our consultant will guide you through this process, asking questions that will allow us to better understand your situation and to determine the needed equipment and personnel.

Step 2: Inspection and Mould Damage Assessment

We determine the scope of the mold damage by carefully inspecting your property for visible signs of mould. Since mold can be hidden, we use various technologies to detect mould and hidden water sources.

Step 3: Mould Containment

Our professionals use various containment procedures to prevent the spread of mould. We may use advanced containment procedures like negative air chambers to isolate the contaminated area with physical barriers and negative air pressure to keep the mould spores from spreading during the cleanup process. All fans and heating and cooling systems will be turned off to prevent the spread of mould.

Step 4: Air Filtration

We use powerful air scrubbers, HEPA vacuums, and other filtration equipment to remove microscopic mould spores out of the air. This air filtration process and our mold containment process help to prevent the spread of these mould spores while the mould remediation is in process.

Step 5: Removing Mould and Mould-Infested Materials

The mould remediation process depends on the amount of mould growth and the types of surfaces on which the mould appears. We’ll use antifungal and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate mould colonies and to help prevent new colonies from forming. It may be necessary to remove and dispose of mould-infested porous materials, like drywall and carpeting, to remediate heavy mould growth.

Step 6: Cleaning Contents and Sanitizing

We clean your furniture, decorative items, curtains, clothing, and other restorable items affected by mould, using a variety of cleaning techniques to clean and disinfect your belongings. We’re also trained to remove odours and provide deodourisation using fogging equipment.

Step 7: Restoration

During the remediation process, it’s often necessary to remove porous building materials like subfloors, drywall, and carpet. The restoration step returns your Mississauga, ON home or business back to normal. Depending on the severity of mould damage, the restoration step may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall, or it may involve a substantial reconstruction project.
